1445 - 1468 AD.  Ralph de Standish Lord of the Manor of Standish.

1441. In the year 1441 Ralph  bought land from Richard Greeg located in Chorley and Duxbury. This parcel of land lay across the boundary of Chorley and Duxbury. One part lay upon the Manor of Chorley the other larger part formed the Burgh upon the Manor of Duxbury including a Mill. This Land would become the inheritance of his grandson Thurstan Standish (second son of Sir Alexander Standish) founder of the Burgh branch of the Standish family upon the Manor of Duxbury.

1507 to 1538 AD.  Ralph de Standish Lord of the Manor of Standish.

Thurstan Standish, founder of the Burgh branch of the Standish family was the younger brother of Ralph.

Standish Deed 296 records the purchase of Land in Chorley and Duxbury by Ralph Standish grandfather of Thurstan Standish in 1442. These lands became the inheritance of Thurstan Standish.

Thurstan Standish built a house at Lower Burgh  between Plock Wood and Birkacre in the early 1500's and this remained the home of his descendants until the line died out in the mid 18 century.

Thurstan Standish and his descendants were Catholics in common with the Standish Family of Standish. Should Myles Standish be descended from Thurstan Standish, Myles would have been born into a devout Catholic family and Myles would also have the royal French blood line direct from the Dukes of Normandy, France.

Was Lower Burgh Hall built by Thurstan Standish the birthplace of Myles Standish?

 STANDISH FAMILY PAPERS  D/D St. C  [n.d.]
Contents:

These papers, comprising mainly eighteenth century correspondence, are of particular interest for the insight they provide into the society of the time.

Two of the most interesting items are, however, seventeenth century - notebooks kept by Lady Bindloss (D/D St./BundleC2/1,2). One gives precise instructions on how to make silk braid, and even contains actual examples of the finished braid attached to the appropriate pages. The other reveals her interests in astrology, botany and writing.

There are a number of late seventeenth and eighteenth century inventories of the goods given to Lady Phillippa Howard by her father, the Duke of Norfolk; while those made by Mrs. Cecilia Towneley on her succession to the Standish estate describe in detail the furniture, china, cutlery, linen and jewellery of Standish and Towneley Halls.

There are references to various illnesses and cures; Lady Phillippa, for example, had a "cancerous humour," which was later cured [D/D St./BundleC4/1]; a red powder was recommended for a sore breast [D/D St./BundleC4/5/4], while other cures included "King James' blood" [D/D St./BundleC4/6/4]; sadly, the illness of Anna Standish proved fatal, and there is some informative correspondence between her father, Thomas, and the family doctor [D/D St./BundleC17/1]

Letters from Ralph Standish to his mother, 1715-1720, [D/D St./BundleC4/1] describe his "melancholy condition" en route to London, following his capture at the Battle of Preston, his confinement for a time, and subsequent travels in Flanders
Correspondence he received from his son, Ralph Standish Howard when in London under the patronage of the Duke of Norfolk, 1727-1728, [D/D St./BundleC5] gives details of society pastimes, fashions and etiquette in the capital at that time. They also show the problems of the writer in finding a suitable wife and in being accepted fully by his new acquaintances, without revealing himself as the country squire he believed himself to be.

Other documents of note includ
e references to travel on the continent in the early nineteenth century [D/D St./BundleC20] and coal mining on the estate [D/D St./BundleC11/1]
